Water Softeners
Locally, in the greater Seattle area, water softeners are generally not used much, as the soft water in this area makes mineral buildup less of a problem. However, most folks use a water filter with a lime scale inhibitor to help control the mineral buildup. The Everpure OCS, BH or MH filters each have a scale inhibitor.
In other parts of the country where hard water is common, water softeners are required. No machine manufacturer will honor warranty claims when the root of the problem is hard water.
We carry three commonly used water softeners:
Rechargeable canister type softener.
This uses rock salt to recharge the softener, and requires the operator to spend twenty to thirty minutes charging and flushing the canister. This must be done on a regular basis, depending on how hard the water is, and the volume of water used.
The initial softener canister costs about $150, and comes with complete instructions.
In addition, there are two water softener cartridge systems put out by Everpure, and they are both very convenient. You must change the cartridge regularly, depending on hardness and volume.
7-S0 water softener cartridge system. Removes 2,000 grains of hardness. This is a low volume softener system intended for low volume or not-so-hard water.

Combination Filter / Softener
The ESO is a simple cartridge system that does both filter and soften water. The single configuration is rated to remove 4400 grains of hardness.
The twin configuration is rated to remove 8800 grains of hardness. Filters particles to 5 microns - reduces chorine, off tastes and odors.
